Reset Worlds Reset - Alliances
The reset worlds (W11 and W12) are being reset at 11.30 BST (0630 EST) 18th May. All current kingdoms will be removed from the worlds at the time of reset...
What will the reset entail?
Everyone joining the worlds will be preassigned to an Alliance - whichever alliance has the least number of people - so you'll end up as part of the following :
On W11 : "Roman", "Celt", "Visigoth" and "Viking".
On W12 : "Gaul", "Espania", "Mongols" and "Byzantine Empire".
This was originally built for the mini meetup that happened in New York last October, but never got used - we think that it adds a number of interesting elements
to the game. First up, you're with people you don't know.. which is how you end up making new friends in the game. Next, it makes the game more challenging
in that you have to work with those people, experienced or new, to beat the other alliances. Lastly, when you colonise you're added to your original alliance
again (so, if I was a celt on W11 I'd be a celt on w12, with only other people from W11 who've got colonies).
So, to get yourself a place in the brand new world, sign up any time after the reset tomorrow - people with existing w11/12 accounts will be able to log in with
those accounts.

Updates Updates Updates!
As you will have seen, a new native iPhone KingdomGame app was released at the beginning of April which has resulted in around 2000 new kingdoms being established and activly used over the past few weeks.
While that has been happening a number of patches have been released, the latest is V1.063 - read the full patch notes here
As always we love to read your feedback and comments on patches and any aspect of the game in the official forums - so if you get a chance sign up and get stuck in!
There will be another patch in the next week or so to change the NW of some resources (namely spice, to be worth less).

Happy Birthday KingdomGame!
Well, the last year has been excellent fun - KingdomGame was released around about now last year as an alpha version to the Apple website... just to see if people might like to have a go.
Within five hours of release the servers had been overloaded... and I was busy trying to get the day off work to fix it all as it happened.. then came the frantic coding to patch things up to
a level I was happy with.. then more frantic coding for six months when the gold version was released.
We've seen hundreds of thousands of visitors in that time... with between 4-10k players per day every day, including Christmas day.. across 198 different countries in the world (meaning that
someone in almost every country of the world has played KingdomGame). A massive 217 million pages have been served to people playing.. with twenty minutes being the average time spent on the
site each time someone visits.
As a thank you to everyone for playing and supporting the game everyone is getting an extra weeks premium time added to their account as of today.
On another note, the next few weeks should be interesting with a free KG app being released to the iTunes for people to download and play KingdomGame through - more on that over the next week.
Also look out for a new KingdomGame patch in the next week or so...

News from a world near you

It has been a while since my last update, but there have been loads of changes to the KingdomGame world...

Additionally, two new worlds have opened, worlds 11 and 12 (Kladil and Leemarv) which are testing the new reset code - every three months these
worlds reset, allowing people to try out new strategies and tactics in an ever changing scenario.
Two new patches have been released, along with a number of back end changes to increase the KingdomGame server stability - and we're
continuing to work on ever increasing the stability.

Patch V1.056 Released
This week we've added in some new fun bits that will change the way the game works slightly.. the main elements to look at are:
- New Prayer called "Neptunes Blessing" - which increases the catch rate of fish by 15% while it's enabled.
- Colony <> HomeKingdom multiple cog transfers for premium account holders (watch you don't go over your cap's when transporting goods!!)
- Colonies can be attacked navally regardless of whether they have a port or not - afterall, they were set up on the coast.. so can be raided.
Increased trickle rate for money over someones cap - money will now trickle out in around an hour.

Patch V1.055 Released and a Competition
Happy New Year to everyone - only a few more months now and KingdomGame will reach it's first birthday - it's hard to believe...
.. anyway, on to todays topics, the new patch and a competition. I decided to release this patch today as it changes a lot of the engine around,
and then release a second patch next Tuesday with a few of the more fun changes in it - simply so I can deal with any problems caused by the patch
in two distinct parts.
Todays patch changes around the way that the game generates each page - those of you playing KingdomGame while on the move from their mobiles will
notice a huge performance increase. Those who use a desktop computer to play KingdomGame will notice a new menu shown on the screen at all times
to make navigation and playing KingdomGame a bit faster..
.. in addition to that there are a number of other changes which are caused by the patch. Firstly, it gets rid of a lot of the old style issues
(cookie based) displaying fonts in odd colours... secondly it removes the "System Offline" bug that was sometimes seen.

The most exciting change is the ability for you guys to create and distribute your own styles. If you don't like the colours we've used simply
create your own one, upload it to some web space and then enter the url of the location in the new "Custom Style" box on the user config page.
To that end, a new competition will be run over the next two weeks (Final Entry and winner announced at 1200GMT 16JAN09), the price will be a
months free premium time. All you need to do to enter is submit a new KingdomGame Style by posting a topic in the
Competition Entries forum. For information on how to create your own style,
please see the Custom Styles KingdomGame Wiki page.
There are loads of new an exciting enhancements coming in the next few months to make KingdomGame ever more involving.

Patch V1.053 Released
HO HO HO Patch V1.053 added to the game and tis the season - as such, a new festive resource has been added to the game; Mulled Wine (essentially spiced wine).
Mulled Wine has the same effect as beer; twice as potent as wine - however, it will be removed in the first patch of January.!
In addition to that we've worked on fixing a number of bugs which have been cropping up, trying to get the system working smoothly.
I've also raised the non-premium account skill level cap to seven from five, there are still some things to test, but people have
tested up to that level now.!
A few "oddities" in the kingdom game dynamics have been changed; Troops no longer remove armour before going to battle, therefore you
can lose armour when attacking.. but, on the other side of the coin, you don't always lose 100% of your armour when being attacked
(see below for the details) - we've also changed the improved armour skill to be a little bit more effective. !
Lastly, new resource trickling has been enabled properly this time after being disabled post-patch last week; therefore we've delayed
the NW value for the "new" resource types until the next patch - Gold Coins have had their trickle out rate increased, so they'll trickle
out twice as fast as they did before.!

Patch V1.051 Released
Another week, another patch - this time altering the game balance by reducing the value of gold against a Kingdoms networth amongst a
number of other fixes.
This is a prelude to other networth changes coming in the next few weeks, including networth values assigned to Wine, Spice, Grapes,
Iron and Armour. All of which will have around the same value as lumber or stone.

Patches V1.050 and V1.050-1 Released
Two new patches released to reduce bugs in KingdomGame (and while V1.050 didn't go quite as planned, V1.050-1 has fixed the issues properly!) -

There were also a number of enhancements to speed up the back end system to make the servers (and login's) more stable.
The FaceBook version of KingdomGame is slowly but surely growing with nearly two hundred kingdoms created so far - the more we can get playing the

Patch V1.049 Released
Over the past month the we've been working hard on making KingdomGame more stable and ever more bug free. We've also added in loads of
new features, both for premium accounts and the free accounts which make the game easier to play and have fun in. The lastest changes are
in Patch V1.049 - read the patch notes here
In addition to that I've been working on a new FaceBook front end for the game which will hopefully get a few more people in and playing -
there will also be a new "FaceBook-Only" world to play in if you fancy starting from scratch and pitting your wits against new players!
In the next few months a UK/European based meet will be announced - with a little more notice than the US one early last month (Excellent
fun - thanks to those who came along!)
Lastly, thanks to everyone who has upgraded their accounts, clicked on adverts or sent in donations - the support you've given the Game
is fantastic! For those of you who haven't yet bought an account there are loads of useful features to play with...! Look out for two
new competitions coming up in the next week or so - prizes include free premium time.

Alliance Buildings and a Mini KG Convention
Well, another few releases out of the door and things are moving forward nicely (although it mostly feels like one step forward two steps back).
There are loads of new features out there, including new spy report functionality.. and there are loads of new upgrades and enhancements to the game
(you can read all about them in the patch notes for the last few patches here : V1.043
and V1.044)
There will, as normal, be a patch next Tuesday, adding alliance buildings, Warehouses and a multitude of other bits and pieces. The alliance buildings are
owned by the alliance and give benefits to everyone in the alliance, each level can be built by donating resources to the pool until the required amount is
reached then the building will build - be aware, there will also be a 10% maintenence fee each week to keep the building at the level you have it.
The current buildings planned are :
1) The Grand Library, which will reduce time to train things in the Training and Research area (for everyone in the alliance).
2) The Cathedral, which will reduce mana spell costs (for everyone in the alliance).
3) The Grand Hall, which will allow an increase of member cap of the alliance (one per level)
A mini KingdomGame convention is going to be held in New York on Friday 10th October in the Gilt Bar
from around eight - if you're interested in coming, please post up in the forums (or email
me at support@kingdomgame.net) so that I can let the bar know how many to expect.

Universities, Training Yards and Church Studies
Patch V1.042 deployed, bringing with it a large number of new features - read the patch note here.
The major update for this patch is the inclusion of the new skill and technology trees to allow you to advance your kingdom through study and training. There are a wide range of skills available (51) each doing a range of different things, from irrigation to increase your farming yield to supplication that decreases the cost of prayers in the holy circle.
Please do post your feedback on the forums, I'm always interested in reading what you think.
In other news, a new KingdomGame Palringo group has been set up so and the first open developer Q&A session was held last night. For more details on how to join the group see here
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the KingdomGame Wikipedia page, it's looking excellent! Of course, I think there may have to be some new additions with the new patch items soon.
Lastly, thanks again to everyone who has upgraded to a premium account - your support means the game can continue developing and changing! As a thank-you in the future you will be able to get your hands on new changes a little while before everyone else... more on that later!

Patch V1.041 Released and Some Other Bits
Well, another day, another patch - this time with a huge number of bug fixes and quite a few enhancements for the premium account holders out there. Read the patch note here
Next week should see the new Universities and Training Yards released to spend a bit of that hard earned (well, hard taxed) gold on... more on that later in the week.
Some of you may have noticed the new "School Worlds" section to the bottom right of the page and are wondering what it is. Well, a few schools have decided to take up KingdomGame as an Educational tool - allowing forms/classes to run a Kingdom as a group (learning about teamwork, leadership, decision making, etc). Each school that is participating is linked to every other school so that trade, communication, colonisation and diplomacy can all happen - making learning fun. There will be a full information pack released at some point soon, but if anyone out there is interested in partaking in the trial please contact me (at support@kingdomgame.net); I'm ideally looking for schools with pupils aged between 11 and 18 to take part.

Competition Winners and Reset
Firstly, thanks to everyone who entered the competition - there were sooo many excellent entries and a lot of interesting discussion to read through! Judging the winners was a very hard job indeed... but we finally sifted through the entries to come up with the winners :
First place went to : EmKraen with Diplomacy - which will make the diplomats in game a little more involving!
Second place went to : Peeksvill with Monasteries - by researching this your mana production will increase..
Third place went to : Sorbitol with Preservation - increasing the effectiveness of Spices in your kingdoms.
Next up, the final reset time has been scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday 2nd September at 12 Midday GMT (6AM EST) - please make sure you've made the choice as to whether you want to be reset or move to the veteran server before then (you can do so in your user config area!)
The reset/transfers should take around an hour - once the worlds come back online there will be a new world to log into/register at called "Veritas" which all the people from the veteran transfers will be able to log into.
Lastly, thanks again to everyone who has donated or has bought an Adfree/Premium account - it's very much appreciated!

An excerpt from the plan:
One of the new features of KingdomGame is going to be the ability to spend money (and time) on discovering faster ways of doing something or training your army to be more
effective.
Two new areas in game will be created to allow you to do that.
As a break down of how training will work; if I were to train "Irrigation" to level one, it would take me 12 hours and cost 2000GC. Once trained I would receive a +1% increase
to my food yield per hour. If I wanted to train the second level in irrigation, it would take me 24 hours and cost 8000GC.. but would give me a +2% increase in my food yield
per hour. [Note, the costs and times are not set yet!]
There will be about 20-25 levels per skill type, only one item can be trained in the university or training yard at any one time. Some skills will only be available when other
skills have reached a certain level.

Patch V1.037 - Premium/AdFree Accounts, Troop Levelling and Colonies
A new patch has been released which includes being able to set up colonies in foreign worlds amongst a myriad of other things.

One of the major updates in the inclusion of AdFree and Premium accounts to the system. The latter gives players the following enhancements (there are many more to follow in the coming weeks!):
No adverts; faster server connections to play through; Market Enhancements (searching of market items); Customizable quick menu options;
Configurable out of game Email Alerts; Enhanced mana spending options (+24 hours instead of just +5); Enhanced building and training options
(build max buttons); Number formatting (comma's in large numbers); Multi Delete option for Pigeons
As of now the only way I can accept payments online is through PayPal - however, in the near future I hope to expand payment options. If you would like to make payments in an offline way with a cheque,
please email me at payments@kingdomgame.net for information.
As normal, do keep posting your ideas in the forums - the team and I really do read every one!
Lastly, a new stat tracking system is now working, allowing you to track Networth over time by Kingdom or Alliance - the data in the system has been reset recently, so you'll only be able to see

Scheduled Downtime and Patch : 03JUN08;1700GMT
There will be a server outage while new code is deployed tomorrow at 1700GMT. The changes will include new attack code being added
to the system to make it more interactive (and, strategic). As someone on the forums said "The current attack system is like playing
Rock, Paper, Scissors, but with just Rocks" - the new patch is going to make it work properly.

World Nine - Inic - Capped Attack World

the servers that are available now. On this server you can only lose a maximum of 30% of your land in any 24 hour period.

Non-Alliance World & Patch V1.028-b
A new non alliance world has been set up, please do not go on here as an alliance - you've got seven
other worlds to do that on. Anyone found to be working as an unannounced alliance will have their accounts on the server removed.
Also, a couple of new things have been released in a new patch update (V1.028-b - Notes here) including the ability to change your own passwords
(providing you have validated your email address)
If you've not already read it, Talador (from W4) has been creating an "unofficial guide" to KingdomGame - so far it has some excellent information in it - you can

Shhh - this is sort of secretive..
Well, the new server is up and running and we'll be transferring some things over there.. the first thing we transferred, however, was
the code, so you'll be able to access the game without the bazillion timeout's and login's you've been having to endure!

For reference, I've purchased a new dedicated server, and all of the worlds will be moving off the various VPSs they're on at the
moment. The new server should provide a much better service (i.e. not all these bazillion timeouts that we're getting at the
moment, rather frustratingly!) We believe that the response times will be vastly improved.. so, if you find your world is off
for maintenance, it may be because it's being moved to the new server.. so hang tight!

Planned downtime
At approximately 20:00 GMT/21:00 BST, I'll be taking all worlds offline to fix the stuck buildings/training issue. They should be down for 15-20 minutes.
The exception is World 5, which will be offline for longer while I look into the bigger problems that it has.
21:20 Update: All worlds bar 5 should now be back to normal
22:05 Update: World 5 is now back ...

World 1 Test Updates (plus other security fixes)
World one has now got the "lose buildings" pluggin in operation - if you lose land from a battle, then you will
lose buildings too. Once we have confirmed that it works on world one it will be rolled out to all other worlds.
Additionally, more security loopholes have been closed, we're slowly working through them, but it's taking some time.
As usual, any comments/questions/support requests that you may have should be posted on the forums please.

Worlds two, four and five are experiencing problems - I'm moving them to a new server host (the same one hosting Worlds 1,3,6 & 7)..

Interesting Information and Facebook
While looking at some code fixes, I got a little distracted with some of the statistics gathered
regarding the users of KingdomGame - that I thought you might find interesting.
There have been more than 47000 visitors to the site (which is good, except there is only 12K active
account places available atm), viewing more than eight and a half million different pages.
The visitors have come from 6516 cities, from 136 different countries.. using 20 different types of
devices to view the game one (from iPhones to the Wii..)
Additionally, a facegroup book has been set up (thanks Jane!) for people playing KingdomGame, feel

Update Upgrades and more Bug Fixes
I've done a few update upgrades, errors on W1 won't be happening - on the other hand, money and food
will effect your troops now (i.e. if you don't have either, they're going to leave your Kingdom) - the
last part will be rolled out to worlds W2 to W7 tomorrow, to give people a chance to balance their
Kingdoms quickly.
Also, people are no longer able to attack themselves (what sort of sadist tries this?! :))
Some more double accounts have been removed, I'll reiterate what I said before, multiple accounts
on the same world is against the rules - accounts on other servers are fair game. If you have
multiple accounts and want to own up and save your favourite, please let me know ASAP, before I wipe
whichever ones I find first.

Security Upgrade
As there have been a number people reporting kingdom hacks, therefore I've updated the security system, you will notice
that the password checking is now CaSe SensiTIVe.
Please email me at paulhutson@kingdomgame.net to have your password reset, however please be aware I have a number
of support requests to deal with at the moment so it may take some time to get to your email! Please ensure that
you include your Kingdom Name and the world you're on in the email!!!!

Temporary Attack Bug Fix!
I've deployed a temporary bug fix for the attack bug script error. This will resolve any problems with attacking people at this
time. I will be rewriting the attack script at some point soon which will address the problem properly.

Quick Update...
Hello all, I'm still looking into a number of the bugs, some of them are taking a bit of time to beat - on another note
I'm also looking at transferring the ASP code to another server so that these (frequent) timeouts will stop!

Update Patch : Beta - V1.12
Todays patch does the following..
- Training/Building Fix's - properly implemented, the last solution wasn't complete.. this one is. Let me know if
you're still experiencing the problem by email please. Don't forget your Kingdomname and to tell me which world you're
on.
- World 1 and World 3 stability fixed - lots of thanks to Greg Thomas for helping out with that one! I'm hoping that
what has been done ensure the worlds run as smoothly as possible, with less down time.. it did involve a server upgrade
though
- Some more forum fixes and other small bug fixes.
For reference, I'm working from this bug list at the moment, generated from a volunteer
effort (from Reitha, on W2)... plus any others people are emailing in about!

The next updates will be to have a communal forums across all world, instead of individual ones - but keeping in tact the
existing alliance forums.. additionally, the alliance forums will be fixed shortly. Also, the nasty prayers will be deployed, so
start saving that mana ;)

Update Patch : Beta - V1.1
Todays Patch does the following..
- Training Fix! No more people stuck in training! Let me know if the problem occurs again.
- Building Fix! All the buildings that have been stuck should be fixed! Let me know if the problem occurs again.
- Fixed a myriad of, erm, loopholes that allowed some people to generate endless cash and troops..
- Attack bug fixed, where people with no casualties lose all their troops... this won't happen anymore.
- New FAQ deployed, because that's rather handy..
The next update (perhaps tomorrow evening around the same time) will see the "nasty" prayers being deployed, along with some more
bug fixes :) Been a bit of a roller coaster of a day.

All Servers Back Up

All servers are now back up, including W1 now!. I'll be implementing the
training/building fix this evening so stand by!
Thanks to everyone for their ongoing support and for the donations that keep on
coming in! Just as a side note, if anyone see's any adverts on the site (which
I get from google) please do give them a click, as everytime you do I get a few
cents which start to mount up!

World 2 Bug - Reset
:
Due to a hefty bug on World 2, I've had to do a full server reset. There will be
2K more Kingdom slots available again - very sorry to all the people playing on W2! :(
In a more positive light, at least I can look at what a new Kingdom start up looks like
from a world perspective now to give everything a test!

More Bugs Fixes and Game Changes

And a few more fixes and changes..
- Forum Bug fixed, I'd made things *too* secure, now people can once again
post on the forums they should be able to.
- New Explore Bug fixed - if you have more than 50k NW and less than 2500
acres you can still get the 2500 acres you should have got earlier..
- Fixed population report bug on overview screen, to show Diplomats
- Fixed Food bug: If you have no food, peasants will leave.. and quite
quickly, at that. They also won't arrive either.
For reference, I'm working from this bug list at the moment, generated from a volunteer

Bugs Fixes and Game Changes

This list will grow throughout today..
- Forum Bug fixed, people can no longer access private forums.
- Forum Bug fixed, you can only post on the world forums of your own world.
- Land exploration cap increased. For each 10K networth you can explore 500 more acres
up to 50K NW - giving a total of 2500 acres of possible land exploration.
- Forum post dates added to each post in a thread.
- Fixed alliance ranks bug.
- Fixed Diplomat sending bug for some kingdoms with ' in their name.
- Spys will take a maximum of five hours to return from missions.
- Market wagons now report the correct amount of gold being sent from a sale
(although they actually did give the correct gold already)
- New cancel confirm button for buildings/training troops on overview screen.
- New menu icon images deployed (thanks go to Jon Mason for creating them!)
- Updated explore (again) to stop people with Networths greater than 50k from exploring at all... time to work for that land!

Cheats, Multiple Accounts and Stuff
:
It has come to my attention that a number of Kingdoms are using exploits to elevate their
Networth in the game. People who abuse the system will be removed - while this is still
a testing phase people are enjoying the game and want it to be fair.
Additionally, multiple accounts in the same world will no longer be allowed (there have been
27K distinct people visit the site, while I've only got room for 12K people in the game at
this time. It seems a bit unfair to have multiple accounts in a world while others can't
get in at all
For reference, requests for world transfers can not be granted at this time - there will be
additional spaces opening on each world this week so standby to jump in!
Last but not least, thank you to everyone who is posting up the bugs, it is much appreciated
and also thank you to everyone who has donated and is continuing to donate!
